Curriculum for Excellence

At Burgh Primary School we follow the Scottish Curriculum – Curriculum for Excellence.

Curriculum for Excellence is a curriculum which ensures that children aged between 3 and 18 develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.

There are eight different curricular areas: language, maths, social subjects, health and wellbeing, expressive arts, technologies, sciences and religious and moral studies.

The knowledge, skills and attributes learners will develop will allow them to demonstrate four key capacities – to be;

• successful learners
• confident individuals
• responsible citizens and
• effective contributors

At Burgh Primary we aim to develop the four capacities by providing fun, exciting, creative and challenging experiences for our children.

Children will learn through play, through research, by working collaboratively and by working independently. Pupils will be encouraged to be actively involved in their learning. Active learning is learning which engages and challenges children's thinking using real-life and imaginary situations.

We hope that during your child’s time at Burgh Primary School that they will achieve their ful potential and become life long learners.
